Collins Avenue in Edgehill would have to be the most beautiful street to drive along in North Queensland, with magnificent tropical gardens brimming from both sides of the road and providing the most spectacular canopy.

To fully appreciate the diversity and beauty of tropical foliage and vegetation, the Cairns Botanic Gardens should be a priority for every visitor to Far North Queensland.

The Cairns Botanic Gardens encompasses many different botanical areas and themes and the highlights include -

  • Flecker Gardens - a showcase of tropical flora
  • Gondwana Heritage Garden
  • Aboriginal Plant Use Garden
  • Conservatory - home to orchids, bromeliads, carnivorous plants, tassel ferns, palms, and aroids.
  • Chinese Friendship Garden
  • Centenary Lakes
  • Botanic Gardens Restaurant & Visitor Centre Cafe
  • Gift shop & Interpretive displays
Free guided walks of the Botanic Gardens are recommended - Check with the Visitor Centre for times.
Free bird watching guided walks are every Tuesday commencing at 8.30am. Bring binoculars and wear walking shoes. 
Admission is FREE.   No dogs allowed.  
Accessibility:  Some paths in Flecker Gardens are not suitable for wheelchairs and prams. The remainder of the gardens, including Centenary Lakes, is fully accessible.

Flecker Gardens, including Watkins Munro Martin Conservatory, is open every day from 7.30am to 5.30pm (subject to weather conditions). | Visitor Centre opens 8:30am to 4pm weekdays, 8:30am to 1pm weekends and public holidays, closed Christmas Day.
